Ready to chase some of the Gulf's most prized fish? Hop aboard with Captain Vasiliy of Neptune Charters Enterprise Inc for a shared offshore adventure you won't forget. This 4-6 hour trip takes you and a small group of fellow anglers out to Sarasota's most productive fishing grounds. Whether you're a seasoned pro or it's your first time wetting a line, you'll have a blast targeting snapper, grouper, triggerfish, and more. With all the gear provided and Captain V's expert guidance, you're in for a day of serious fishing and laid-back fun on the water.
As soon as we clear the pass, it's game on. Captain Vasiliy knows these waters like the back of his hand, and he'll have us on the fish in no time. We'll be dropping lines for a mix of bottom-dwellers and pelagics, depending on what's running. Grey snapper, red grouper, and triggerfish are almost always willing to play. If we're lucky, we might even tangle with a hard-fighting kingfish or hook into some blackfin tuna. The beauty of these shared trips is you get the best of both worlds – the camaraderie of fishing with new friends, plus plenty of chances to land your own trophy catch.
Out here, we're all about versatility. We'll likely start with some bottom fishing, using cut bait or squid to entice those reef-dwellers. Captain V will show you the ropes if you're new to it – it's all about feeling the bite and setting the hook just right. For the triggerfish and snapper, we might switch to lighter tackle and smaller hooks. If the pelagics are running, we could break out the trolling gear and drag some lures. The captain's always got his ear to the water, so we'll adjust our strategy to whatever's working that day. And don't worry about gear – the boat's stocked with quality rods, reels, and all the bait you'll need.

Grey Snapper: These crafty customers, also known as mangrove snapper, are a staple of Gulf fishing. They might not be the biggest fish in the sea, but what they lack in size, they make up for in flavor. Grey snapper love structure, so we'll target them around reefs and wrecks. They can be finicky eaters, so Captain V will show you how to finesse your bait presentation for the best results. These guys are here year-round, but the bite really heats up in the summer months.
Red Grouper: When it comes to tasty bottom-dwellers, red grouper are hard to beat. These bruisers can grow up to 50 pounds, though most of the ones we'll catch are in the 5-15 pound range. They love to hang around rocky bottoms and reefs, and they'll put up a good fight when hooked. The grouper bite is generally good year-round, but regulations can change, so we'll make sure we're fishing for them during open season.
King Mackerel: Also known as kingfish, these speedsters are a blast to catch. They can grow over 5 feet long and are known for their blistering runs that'll have your reel screaming. We typically target them by trolling with live bait or artificial lures. The king mackerel run is best in the spring and fall, but we can find them in Sarasota waters most of the year.
Grey Triggerfish: Don't let their small size fool you – triggerfish are feisty little fighters that are a ton of fun to catch. They've got a unique, almost triangular body shape and a set of chompers that can make short work of your bait if you're not paying attention. We'll fish for them around reefs and artificial structures. The meat is white, flaky, and delicious – a real treat if you've never tried it before.
Hogfish: These oddball-looking fish are prized for their sweet, delicate meat. They're not the easiest to catch, which makes landing one even more satisfying. Hogfish typically hang around rocky bottoms and reefs, and we'll often target them with lighter tackle and live bait. They're here year-round, but the cooler months tend to be best for hogfish hunting.
If you're itching for some quality time on the water and a cooler full of fresh fish, this shared charter with Captain Vasiliy is just the ticket. Grey snapper, also called mangrove snapper, are a popular target here in Sarasota. These clever fish typically run 1-3 pounds inshore, but can reach 10-20 pounds offshore. Look for them around structures like docks, reefs, and wrecks in 10-100 feet of water. They're opportunistic feeders, so live shrimp or small baitfish work well. Grey snapper put up a good fight and taste excellent, making them a favorite for both sport and the table. Their peak season is summer through fall when water temps are warmest. One local trick - use a light fluorocarbon leader, as these fish can be line-shy. When you feel that distinctive tap-tap bite, be ready to set the hook fast. These snappers are quick to spit out a bait if they feel resistance.
Grey triggerfish are odd-looking but tasty critters we catch while bottom fishing offshore. They usually run 2-5 pounds but can reach 10+. You'll find them around hard bottom areas, reefs and wrecks in 60-300 feet of water. Triggers have small mouths but powerful jaws for crushing crabs and shellfish. Use small strong hooks with squid or cut bait. These fish are notorious bait stealers, so when you feel the bite, reel fast and set the hook hard. Triggerfish put up a decent fight for their size and are excellent eating. Summer is peak season when they move to shallower waters. One local trick - when you hook one, get it off the bottom quick or it'll wedge itself in a hole. Their tough, leather-like skin makes them tricky to fillet, but the sweet white meat is worth the effort.
Hogfish are a unique species we target here in Sarasota. With their pig-like snouts, they root around reefs for crustaceans. Most run 2-5 pounds, but can reach 20+. You'll find them on rocky bottoms and patch reefs in 30-100 feet of water. Hogfish are typically caught while bottom fishing with shrimp or crab, but many divers spear them too. They're not the strongest fighters, but make up for it with their excellent taste - many consider hogfish the best-eating fish in the Gulf. Spring and fall are good seasons as water temps are moderate. These fish can be tricky to hook as they nibble baits. One local tip: use a light wire hook, as their teeth can easily cut through mono. When you feel that telltale tap-tap, be patient and let them take the bait before setting the hook.
Kings are the speedsters of our offshore waters. These sleek predators can hit 70 mph chasing bait, which makes for some exciting fishing when they skyrocket on your bait. Most kings run 10-20 pounds, but 40+ pounders aren't uncommon. We find them in open water from 20-200 feet deep, often around bait schools or structure. Spring and fall are prime seasons as they migrate. Kings will hit just about anything - live bait, dead bait, or artificial lures all work well when trolled. The fight is fast and furious, with blistering runs and acrobatic leaps. One tip: use wire leaders, as their razor-sharp teeth will slice through mono. Kings make good eating when prepared right, but avoid the bigger ones due to mercury. For pure fishing excitement though, it's hard to beat a smoker king on light tackle.
Red grouper are a staple of our offshore fishery here in Sarasota. These beefy bottom-dwellers usually weigh 5-15 pounds, but can reach 30+ pounds. You'll find them hanging around rocky bottoms, ledges and wrecks in 60-300 feet of water. They're aggressive predators, so live bait like pinfish or cut squid works great. Red grouper are prized for their firm, white meat - some of the best eating fish in the Gulf. Spring and fall are peak seasons as they move to shallower waters. When you hook one, get ready for a battle. These fish will try to dive back into their rocky lairs, so you need to turn their head quickly and keep pressure on. A local tip: use a heavy duty circle hook to improve your hookup ratio on these hard-mouthed fish.
